So...I'm finally getting around to posting a blog! The blog, in fact, that everyone (John, Barbara, and Trip) has been harassing me about! The shed is finally complete! (Although these pics were taken some time ago) To celebrate, we had a family picnic since Grandpa Kinnaird was in town! The day turned out to be a little colder than expected, but enjoyable none-the-less. Since then, we've had a small scale work party and completed yet some other important tasks and there will be pictures to follow...sometime. However, here are the latest pictures of the completed shed and a picture of everyone! Although it's a great accomplishment to finally finish the shed, I can't say that I'm not a little disappointed that it's over, it was a fun family project!

We really thought we would finish today but threats of serious rain chased us home.

Shed siding

Thought we would finish putting up the storeroom siding in one day but it didn't happen.  We did get three sides up and I like the old timey look.  We had some wood rough sawed for us at a local sawmill and then promptly nailed most of it up before it warped.  It is nailed in a board and batten configuration.  You can get a feeling for the size and location of the storage area.

The interior wall is capped with a crossing log (kind of a ceiling joist) which is a little irregular.  So the wall height pretty well follows that log.

This has nothing to do with the land but lots to do with some of my favorite people.  Barbara and Harding teasing the ducks with inedible things at a park in Weaverville.

Roof framing is DONE!

One more day with framing.   We have been compensating for the variations induced by using non-demensional building materials, (logs and stuff) and I think things are coming together nicely.

Today we put the 1x4 slats over the rafters and put bracing on the rafters to head off any sagging.

We also put up some framing for the small storage compartement that will be in the near corner.

Next step, Tin on the roof and board and batten around theframing.

You can get a view of the complexity of our roof framing and feel the disinclination of workers to be photographed.  For some reason, everyone was ducking the camera today.

Yet more shed doings

Help is on the way.  Tiffany looking unsure about the whole business but misgivings not withstanding we are able to coax her out of the Kabota.

We spent another day putting on rafters and corner braces.  Yet to come are the braces for the rafters to make a kind of truss.  Then 1x4 planking across those trusses, and then a metal roof.  The weather is turning fallish making for much nicer working conditions.  I will almost be sorry to see this job end.  It has been a fun family project.

Shed progress.

It's a misty moisty morning and cloudy is the weather.  In fact we are working in a cloud that sometimes drizzles  on us and other times just covers us in mist.

Work proceeds on ceiling joists.  Trip is working out logistics for a central support and

Matt is cutting more saddle notches. 

We finally got rained out this day.  Nobody wanted to start the generator and run the electric drill.

However, the ladies thought it was a fine day to build a fire and burn more debris.

Next day the weather is much better and we really get a lot done.
